February will be the beginning of my Wolf Hall Trilogy Readalong. If you’d like to join in, here are some of the why, when and how details.
The Hilary Mantel Wolf Hall Readalong: Feb – May 2021
- I first read Wolf Hall in 2011 and Bring Up the Bodies in 2012.
- It is now nine years since I read them.
- Before reading the final instalment, I want to revisit the first two, to refresh my memory and to see if I still love them as much as I did the first time and to get back into the groove of Mantel’s writing style.
- I have waited until now for the paperback edition of The Mirror and the Light to be published (due 5th March 2021).
- I would be delighted if anyone would like to join me on this journey back in time to Tudor England.
- February – Wolf Hall (reread)
- March – Bring Up the Bodies (reread)
- May – The Mirror and the Light
- I have given myself an April interlude in case I fall behind for any reason. I don’t want to feel stressed or pushed for time.
- I want to enjoy a slow, leisurely read of all three books as well as be able to read other things around them.
- I’d like to research some of the history I am hazy about as I go along (I’m hoping to have a special helper for some of this).
- If you’d like to join me, feel free to read as fast, or as slow, as you like.
- Join in by simply letting me know in the comments if you are interested and/or link your sign up post back here.
- See you on the 1st February!

I would join if I hadn’t set up my mind on diminishing that physical TBR this year (I’ve been wanting to do that for 2 years) But I was dearly tempted !

I’m trying to do the same thing too, but I’m making an exception for this trilogy. I was always going to have to finish it, but I made myself wait for the paperback as hardbacks take up too much room on the bookshelf.

Alright, I’m going to say I’m in! I’m in the same state as you: I want to reread the first two before reading the third. I don’t own the third volume yet, but I’ll either buy it, or I see I can get it from the library without a waiting list by the time it comes up. Looking forward to it!

Delighted to have you along Reese! I believe the publication of the paperback is a worldwide one in March. Hopefully libraries will get enough copies to satisfy their clients.

Sounds like a great idea Bron. I’ve listened to the first two, but I’m happy to do so again (and comment here without writing reviews). I can probably get the new one on Audible and if so I’ll listen along at the appropriate time.

That’s wonderful Bill. Louise from A Strong Belief in Wicker is also planning an audio journey with this trilogy. Do you remember who the narrator is?

Wolf Hall has been on my TBR list for many years and I just got the notice that the copy I reserved at the library is ready for pickup so I’m in.

I will aim to join you for Bringing Up the Bodies in March. I only read Wolf Hall last year so won’t read it again so soon.

Missed joining this read-a-long…unfortunately…but will refer to your post as I start to read this trilogy this winter. Recently I saw an interview on BBC with Ms Mantel promoting RSC’s play The Mirror and the Light, the highly anticipated final chapter of Hilary Mantel’s WOLF HALL TRILOGY, to the West End this 23rd September. She was so brilliant….and when she compared Cromwell with Dominic Cummings (…sort of Cromwell for Boris Johnson in UK)…I was captivated by her historical insights and immediately thought of you! Keeping an eye out for the reviews of the play in The Guardian!

I look forward to hearing what you think of the trilogy. I didn’t know there was a play…
